The Art Of Gift Wrapping

Gift wrapping has always felt like a moment to pause and consider the person on the other end, and add a layer of care before the gift is opened.

At Maison D, I approach gift wrapping the same way I approach interiors and everyday living: simple, thoughtful, and quietly beautiful. It isn’t about excess or perfection, but about creating something that feels personal and considered.

I always begin with the materials. Neutral papers, natural textures, and soft ribbons create a timeless foundation. Kraft paper, linen or cotton ribbon, silk chiffon ties, and understated gift bags allow the smallest details to shine. When the base is calm, the gesture feels intentional.

A gift tag is often the only handwritten element of a present — the point where a name, note, or date turns an object into something human. This is why gift tags matter. I design mine to feel illustrated, gentle in palette, and timeless enough to be kept rather than discarded.

At the moment, my gift tags are available as printable downloads. This format allows for flexibility —choosing your paper, experimenting with finishes, and printing only what you need. While printed editions are something I’m working toward, printable tags make it possible to use the designs now in a way that feels accessible and personal.

Some of my favorite applications are wonderfully simple: a small kraft bag with white tissue and silk ribbon, a wrapped box finished with soft paper and a tag tied directly onto the bow, or a child’s gift where the illustrated tag becomes part of the keepsake. Whether for birthdays, baby showers, or everyday moments, these details elevate even the most modest gift.

In the end, gift wrapping is not about impressing anyone. It is about presence. A few considered choices can transform a simple gesture into something meaningful — and that is where the beauty truly lives.
